Hello!
We are so excited to start sharing our journey of homesteading with everyone. Before we started homesteading we lived in Chicago and then a suburb of Detroit. Six years ago we moved to the country and adopted a slower lifestyle. Growing up in the city I was always fascinated by the lifestyle of those in the 1940s. Those that sewed their clothes, baked from scratch, mended their clothes and grew their food. I started learning some of those skills early and was able to make my clothes before my teen years. Unfortunately, having a garden or doing any food preservation was nearly impossible in the city. But when we moved to Michigan I started to do both! I have been an avid canner and gardener for the past 15 years and my desire to go back to the “old” ways has continued to grow. We now have chickens, and an ever-growing garden, and sell jams, jellies, produce, and homestead items at our local farmer’s markets. As we keep learning how to be more self-sufficient we have grown together as a family and reduced our waste and extra preservatives in our food.
This year we are adding meat chickens and handmade soaps to our homestead.
