Alissa

Homesteader, Wife, Mother, Pastor

Alissa has moved around a lot, living in about a dozen states. Living the longest in the suburbs of Chicago and then Chicago for ten years. Alissa was a professional choreographer and dance teacher. While living in the city Alissa was able to learn how to bake from scratch and did container gardening on connected porches with her neighbors. When Alissa moved to Michigan she was able to expand her garden and learn how to do both water bath and pressure canning. After the move to our 2-acre homestead we added a Goldendoodle and shortly after that 10 chickens. Once chicken math hit, D.A. Homestead came to be. Alissa also battles Multiple Sclerosis which has caused her to lose the ability to walk for six months, temporarily lose vision in one eye, and a handful of other flare-ups. Thankfully none have any lasting effects. This disease has given Alissa the ability and drive to live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment.

David

Homesteader, Husband, Father, Pastor

David is a Michigan native. He followed Alissa to Chicago and after a romantic courtship and beautiful wedding, they moved back to his home state. He has a wonderful ability to communicate with people from all cultures and communities. David has many years studying Spanish, living abroad for a time. He is a skilled musician and is the tech person at the homestead. David also is the one who makes Alissa’s grand ideas come to life. Whether that is building a chicken coop, a brooder, a raised garden bed, or cutting down trees, he is there to make sure we are all taken care of. He also is a wonderful cook and has been known to help with winter canning with Alissa. David also is the hunter of the family. With all the boys in our homestead, it is a big job to feed us all. David primarily hunts white-tailed deer but this year the family is planning some fishing trips as well. David is a passionate person showing great compassion and love to all that he meets.
