Welcome to our homestead

Meet our chickens.

These are the ladies that feed our family and community
And the fellas that protect them.

Lulu

Rhode Island Red

Lu is a chatty chicken and will tell you all the news about the flock. She is a chicken with a personality and she has some spunk. Before we got the rooters she was the alpha hen.

Jelly

Golden Laced Wyandotte

Jelly is an independent chicken and does not like to cuddle. Jelly likes to be included in activities but doesn’t want to be the first to try things. She prefers to watch the others and see how they approach situations before trying it herself.

Daisy

Isa Brown

Don’t tell the others but she is our favorite chicken. Daisy will sit on our laps or sit next to us. She loves to be pet and enjoys all the treats. She is one of the kindest chickens. She holds the position of egg producer AND pet.

Georgia

Barred Rock

Georgia is one of the favorites. She is the biggest girl. Georgia can be calm and want affection or she wants to be alone and not touched. Often she is found having a dust bath or roosting. She goes with the flow of the homestead.

Reese

Rhode Island Red

She is a chicken with an attitude. She doesn’t like to be touched, can sometimes be a bully, and was almost chicken soup. She was saved from the chopping block after a fox attack that took half the flock. Honestly, she might have been what scared the fox away. Reese has been a bit better this spring but she occasionally needs to be put in time out as a reminder to play nice.

Prairie Blue Bell

Elizabeth and Victoria

Barred Rock

We named these girls after the queens but they are not in charge in the coop. These sisters mind their own business and blend in. They lay a medium brown colored egg. Lizza and Vicky like attention but not in front of the other chickens. We give them little pets as we pass by and they walk closer when they want to be held.

Steven

Amberlink Rooster

Steven is in charge of our coop. He protects the girls and will scare off predators. He crows a little to loud for “A’s” liking but he is just warning the girls of the presence of others. He can get a little aggressive with us and our kids sometimes but mostly when spooked. Overall, he is a good rooster and a new chicken dad to Taffy, Marshmallow, and Pickles.
